• Cyberattack on Arizona Court System Steals Personal Data of 1.3 Million People
  A cyberattack on Arizona's court system stole personal information of 1.3 million people, including Social Security numbers, protective order records, and foster care reports.
  • Affects 1.3 million people in Arizona's FARE court debt collection program, plus parties to nearly 30,000 orders of protection and 150,000 Foster Care Review Board reports dating back to 2010.
  • Stolen data includes names, case numbers, and Social Security numbers; protective order addresses were confidential addresses on file with the court.
  • The attack began when a court employee clicked a malicious link in a phishing email; IT staff shut it down on a backup server about two hours after detecting it on Sept. 24.
  • Court officials say no evidence the data has been used or shared, and most copied files are not easily readable without format changes; the FBI is investigating.
  • No records were altered or deleted, and no juror, witness, or court employee data was taken; court cases were not delayed.
